- How much more does an off-grid (or grid-tied with battery back up) solar electric system cost then a standard grid-tied only system?
An off-grid or battery backup system can cost 30-40% more because of the costs of the batteries, boxes and the extra compnents necessary to provide enough power.
- What is net metering and how does this work to my advantage?
Net metering is a special electric meter that records what electricity you pull from the grid when you had no sunshine and what electricity your solar panels feed back into the grid. The utilite company balances out what you bought from them and what you essientially produced from your solar panels. You then get credit for any excess power you generated.
