Frequently Asked Questions on Wind Power Systems

Wind Power FAQs

  • How tall does a wind tower have to be to maximise wind power potential?

A turbine needs to be a minimum of 30 feet higher then any obstruction with in 100 yards. The higher the turbine and tower, the better the output and less turbulence.

  • How do I know if I have enough wind power potential to justify installing a wind system?

The first place to check is the cloest airport for average wind power. You want to have an average speed of 9 to 12 mph to think about wind power and wind can be very site-specific.

  • Can a wind turbine feed power back into the grid without batteries?

Yes. There are many options and turbine systems that can tie into the grid without batteries!
